Annual Cost of Outside IT Support You
should use this bar to select the amount of money that you
spend per year for outside IT support. This bar is applicable
only if you pay an outside consultant for support, otherwise,
set it to zero. If you are unsure, the common rule of thumb
is about $1000/year/user.
Annual Cost of Internal Staff's Time In companies without an IT person, someone always ends up
becoming the "IT guy" that everyone goes to for
help. It may be your accountant, office manager, etc... This
bar is used to calculate the value of that persons time because
if they didn't have to support IT, they could do something
else that was more valuable. So, if this person is paid $50,000
per year and they spend about 1/2 their time support IT, then
you should set this slider to $25,000.
Payroll Burden This is a percentage figure
that takes into account the additional costs for payroll taxes
and a benefits plan. 10-15% is the norm here.
Annual Cost of Facilities If you have
an employee, they consume office space, a desk, a phone, stationary,
etc...This slider bar is used to estimate this cost. It can
also be set to zero if you wish.
Annual Cost of Training Everyone needs
training and IT staff require ongoing training if they are
to stay current with changes in technology. The bar allows
you to select the annual cost of this training.
Annual Cost to Supervise All employees
need some form of management and a manager can only manage
so many employees. Use this slide bar to select the amount
of a manager's salary that would be devoted to managing the
IT employee.
Annual Cost of Software Tools When you have IT employees managing your network, they will need software
tools to do their jobs. Use this bar to select the annual
cost of those tools. Examples of tools might include; network
monitoring software, asset management software, and trouble
ticketing software, etc...
